Whenever I book a photo shoot I almost always get asked, “What do I wear!?” So to help guide you, I’m highlighting a few of my top styling tips below. Of course you can always email me if you have any specific questions!
Coordinate colors but don’t be too matchy-matchy! This will create more visual interest, and allow each personality to shine through.
Layers and accessories are always good. These details create visual interest with pops of color and texture. It’s also easy to change your look quickly during the shoot with small with a small adjustment to your accessories.
Most importantly – wear something that’s YOU and comfortable! When you’re relaxed and feel confident in your look, it comes through in your photos!
If you want to keep it casual, that’s great; we do live at the beach! If you’d like to go for a dressier look, or want more in-depth suggestions, check out my Portrait Session Style Guide. This guide has tips on what clothes flatter men and women, how to coordinate colors and other ideas.
Things to avoid: Crazy loud patterns that distract from your face, neon colors, one person in the family wearing an item of clothing that stands out a lot more than the rest, shoes if we’re on the beach! 🙂
Here are some examples from past shoots that were coordinated, personal, and unique:
What Do I Wear for my Newborn Session?
Here are a few specific photos of newborn sessions that I think work well. I, personally, am drawn to neutrals for newborn sessions so you’ll see that here. But if it’s more your style don’t be afraid to incorporate color and texture into your clothing or with accessories.
For your new babe I typically use swaddles so don’t feel like you have to have a bunch of outfits ready. The babes don’t often fit in them anyway since our session is when they’re about 7 days old. But I am happy to use outfits if you have some you want to use!
You’ll see examples below of casual and dressed up. Go with what makes you comfortable and the look your ultimately going for! Do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions. firstname.lastname@example.org.
